About OkFisher

OkFisher is an aquarium fishkeeping resource. We publish clear, practical, source-backed guides on keeping freshwater fish healthy — covering fish care, water quality, feeding, tank-mate compatibility, health warning signs, and safe transport and aquarium materials.

What OkFisher Covers

Our focus is the everyday questions real fishkeepers ask: how many fish fit in a tank, what a fish’s colour change or behaviour might mean, how to dose a water conditioner safely, which tank mates work, and how to move fish without harming them. Each guide aims to answer the question directly and honestly, and to explain the “why” behind the advice rather than just handing out rules.

Who It’s For

OkFisher is written for beginner and improving aquarists — people setting up a first tank or trying to solve a specific problem, who want a straight answer backed by reliable information rather than guesswork.

Our Editorial Standards

We take accuracy seriously, because bad aquarium advice can cost fish their lives. Our approach:

  • Important husbandry and health claims are checked against reliable sources — veterinary manuals, university and extension resources, peer-reviewed research, government and aquaculture institutions, and the manufacturer’s own instructions for any product-specific claim — with respected specialist aquarium resources as supporting references.
  • We avoid absolute promises. Where the evidence is uncertain, we say so, and we distinguish between what’s possible, what’s commonly observed, and what’s genuinely recommended.
  • We update and correct. Aquarium advice changes as we learn more, so we revise older articles when the evidence does. Where an article has been updated, the change is reflected in its “last updated” date while the original publication date is preserved.
  • Readers can flag mistakes. If you spot something inaccurate or out of date, please tell us through our contact page and we’ll review it.

Who Runs OkFisher

OkFisher is written and edited by Russel, the site’s founder, who keeps and cares about aquarium fish and researches each topic against the sources above before publishing. You can see all of Russel’s guides on the author page.
